Who Is

Green River Design?

About Me.

I’m Kevin Ward, I live with my wife and dogs in West Halifax, Vermont, surrounded by rolling hills, winding rivers, and stone walls that had stood for generations. Growing up one town over as a kid, I’d run my hands over those walls on walks and have been fascinated by how each stone seemed to belong exactly where it was—like nature and human hands had worked together in secret. That fascination never left me.

When I was 22, I picked up my first chisel and hammer. At first, it was just curiosity, but soon I realized that working with stone wasn’t about force—it was about patience, listening, and understanding the story the material wanted to tell. Every stone has a voice; every wall, patio, or outdoor kitchen becomes part of a story that lasts long after I’m gone.

12 years later, I founded Green River Design to bring that story to life for other people. I build stone walls, patios, and outdoor living spaces that feel like they’ve always been part of the land. My goal isn’t just to place stone—it’s to make it feel as though the landscape itself designed it.

Stone is permanent. Wood will rot, metal will rust, but stone endures. There’s something satisfying in knowing that a wall I build today might still be standing for my grandchildren to admire.

Every project starts with listening: to the land, to the home, and to the people who live there. From that, I craft spaces where families gather, friends share meals, and ordinary moments become memories.

At Green River Design, I believe outdoor spaces should do more than look beautiful—they should feel alive, rooted in the land, and connected to the life that happens there.
